Ashland University is looking to bring in the best Fortnite: Battle Royale players and is offering a scholarship to do so.
Tech Crunch reports the Ohio University is adding the popular battle royale game to its esports program line up and is looking to incentivise the best players to join.
This means the relatively new Fortnite will join the likes of League of Legends, Overwatch, CS: Go, and Rocket League as a part of the school’s competitive esports program.
“Fortnite appeals to both the core and casual gaming audience,” Ashland University’s esports head coach Josh Buchanan said. “We’re excited to provide this platform for gamers who want to showcase their skills in a more competitive space. Fortnite facilitates an environment that allows players to get creative, innovate and show off their mastery of their skills.”
The scholarship will knock $4,000 off the school’s admission, which is about $31,000 for a full paying student.
This reduction in fees probably won’t sway students who’s hearts are set on other universities but it could help be the deciding factor for those torn.
