Check out this Batman Beyond Blu-ray Split Screen Comparison clip from the NYCC panel:Kicking off the panel, fans were treated to a sample of one of the Blu-ray featurettes, a roundtable with series creator Bruce Timm, Conroy, Tucker, Burnett and others. Timm explained how the show began with “a terrible idea” — to do a teenage Batman story.
Execs at Warner Bros. Animation wanted to capture a younger audience than what The New Batman Adventures was getting. They figured a teenage batman ought to do the trick. Showrunner Burnett mused, “This show was supposed to be a light show. Somehow, it didn’t quite get that light.”
“The discussions we had among ourselves were decidedly not kid-friendly,” added Tucker.

Off the top of his head, Timm spit-balled a future-set series where Bruce Wayne was too old to be Batman and had to recruit a younger hero. He was lukewarm about the idea at best but, to his surprise, the studio greenlit it immediately. The rest is history.
Eventually, the panel’s conversation turned to the controversial twist where it was revealed that Bruce Wayne was Terry’s biological father. After Friedle reminded Conroy of their characters’ connection, Burnett chimed in, “I don’t accept that.” Apparently the idea to make the two related was Bruce Timm’s and not everyone on the production team was onboard.
Panel moderator Gary Miereanu also talked about Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s upcoming Batman Beyond: The Complete Animated Series Limited Edition box set, which hits digital platforms on October 15 and Blu-ray on October 29. Judging from the side-by-side clips shown today and released previously, the remaster looks amazing.
This is why we still love Batman Beyond 20 years later:The Blu-ray box set is limited to a run of 50,000 and is available for preorder now. It includes all 52 episodes — all of which have been either fully remastered or upconverted — and a remastered, unrated cut of the movie Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. It comes with an exclusive metallic Batman Beyond Funko Pop figure, four lenticular art cards and plenty of bonus content including the new “Nostalgic Tomorrow: A Batman Gathering” and “Knight Immortal” featurettes.
