What could’ve been.
Rejected test footage for Donald Glover’s canceled Deadpool animated series has reportedly been leaked online.
This test footage, which you can view here, is from animation company Titmouse. Per Reddit, while Titmouse pitched the footage, it didn’t get the gig. Instead, FX went with Floyd County Productions, the company behind Archer, before ultimately parting ways with Marvel TV and Glover on the project.
The video shows off Titmouse’s vision for the show, blending Ryan Reynolds’ dialogue from the 2016 live-action film with some crisp, over-the-top animated action.
The footage has a light tone complete with plenty of jokes and one-liners from the Merc with a Mouth. There are plenty of exploding bodies, heads being shot off and, of course, Deadpool losing his limbs.
FX ordered a 10-episode first season of the series in May last year before canceling it earlier this month, with FX citing “creative differences” as a reason for the project’s end. Donald and Stephen Glover were set to serve as showrunners.
Donald posted a 15-page ‘finale’ script and confirmed he “wasn’t too busy” to work on the series. Additionally, Stephen confirmed they had a Taylor Swift episode, which was the ‘last straw’ that led to their departure from the project.
