The Frozen 2 After Credits Scene Explained
As you can imagine there’s an extensive array of brilliant talent included in the credits for Frozen 2, but if you have kids who are fans of Josh Gad’s hilarious sentient snowman Olaf or particularly enjoy his more existential and silly turn this time around then make sure you wait until those credits are over.
Although the post-credits scene doesn’t do too much to add to the lore or hint at a future film — the movie itself definitely delivers on both those fronts — it’s a fun nod to one of the movie’s most entertaining and laugh-out-loud sequences. So if you want to know what happens when the credits are done, keep reading. And if you don’t then turn away now…
As Elsa, Anna, Olaf, Kristoff, and Sven traverse the mysterious forest during the course of the movie, they encounter both the missing soldiers of Arendelle and the indigenous people of the Northuldra who’ve been trapped in the strange space since a powerful mist overwhelmed it. With the parties at odds, Olaf decides to reenact the journey that brought them to the enchanted forest. This includes an almost comprehensive retelling of the first movie told entirely by the snowman thanks to his talents for impression and reconfiguration of his little snowy body. The creative team obviously knew this would be a popular bit as the post-credit sequence extends the moment with a meta-twist.
Every Upcoming Disney and Pixar Animated Movie
Just before the magical Disney castle appears hinting that we all need to leave the theater, we get to see Olaf holding court in a little snowy wonderland. The frosty comedy goldmine is regaling a selection of other sentient snow creatures with what appears to be the entire events of Frozen 2, echoing his hilarious bit earlier. It’s a nice nod to the aforementioned bit and also continues the tradition of sweet and snowy post-credits sequences for the Frozen franchise.
Sadly for the audience of snow-cuties and us, Olaf’s rendition isn’t too long as he apparently “forgot” many of the events. He ends with the ominous statement, “And thus, I live… and so do you.” This phrasing once again brings up the question of just how Olaf and co. are brought to life by Elsa. Will we ever discover the truth behind her ability to bring elements and ice to life? The movie offers up some answers on where her powers come from but when it comes to Olaf we need to know more!
Watch our review of Frozen 2 below:Whether or not you need to stay is up to you. It’s a super-funny little chaser, but doesn’t offer up anything life-changing in terms of content or setting up another Frozen sequel. Seeing as you’ve just watched the movie, the only thing you’re losing here by heading out early is more of Gad’s hilarious delivery and the Disney animation studio showing off their skill at character work and slapstick snowman comedy.
Either way, it’s a fun addition to Frozen 2 that could potentially set up another Olaf-centric short spinoff or just make the many young fans of the summer-loving snowman really happy.
