Man who fell off a cliff is saved by his Apple Watch after it detected a ‘hard fall’ and called 911

A New Jersey man who fell off a steep cliff while on a hiking date credits his Apple Watch for saving his life. 

James Prudenciano, 28, was on a date with Paige Paruso at the Harthshorne Woods Park last week, when they got lost in the woods. 

As it began getting darker, the pair fell onto a ravine and decided to slide down in hopes of landing on solid ground.

But at the bottom they soon realized was just rocks and the Navesink River. 

‘We got to the bottom and that’s when it was life or death,’ Prudenciano explained to News 12. ‘I looked down and I noticed it was a straight drop to rocks and water.’ 

The duo held onto the cliff, fearing for their lives. Paruso eventually fell in the water and was hurt but shared with Prudenciano that she was okay.

It was then that Prudenciano’s Apple Watch detected a ‘hard fall,’ alerting authorities to the pair’s whereabouts. 

‘I was screaming that I’m going to die because I really felt I was going to die,’ he said. ‘There was no way out of this for me. I literally said my last goodbyes.’ 

Prudenciano eventually fell into the river and landed on a rock, suffering three fractures in his back. Thorns are still lodged in his foot.

He still has cuts all over his body

The man had other minor injuries besides the back fractures

Both of the injured were taken to a pier by a passing boat. 

They were then transported to Hackensack Meridian Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment for their injuries. 

Prudenciano’s mother shared that she was sent three text messages, informing her that there was an emergency.
