The video alerts viewers of the show’s content.
Netflix will be adding a warning video ahead of the upcoming second season of 13 Reasons Why.
The streaming service premiered the clip on YouTube and it features some of the show’s stars, Dylan Minnette, Katherine Langford, Justin Prentice and Alisha Boe, alerting viewers of the series’ content. The video will autoplay before the first episode in each of the show’s two seasons.
“If you ever feel you need someone to talk with, reach out to a parent, a friend, a school counselor or an adult you trust,” the stars say via montage in the video. “Call a local help line or go to 13reasonswhy.info because the minute you start talking about it, it gets easier.”
Netflix decided to add the video after conducting a global research study with Northwestern University’s Center on Media and Human Development about 13 Reasons Why’s impact on teenage viewers. According to the study, 71% of teens and young adults found the show relatable.
However, two-thirds of parents in the study wanted the show’s cast to come out and inform viewers about how to get support. Additionally, Netflix has added resources and a viewing guide to 13ReasonsWhy.Info. Season 2 will also have a new after show featuring the cast, experts, and educators who helped Netflix inform its approach with the series.
