The cult classic is homeless once more.
The Tremors reboot TV show has been canned, says Kevin Bacon, despite a “fantastic pilot.”
After 25 years, the sci-fi franchise was set to return to our screens as a rebooted TV show based on the original 1990 film. Plans for the series were announced in 2015, and US network SyFy became involved last year.
By that time, the show sounded more like Starz’s Ash vs Evil Dead spin-off, revisiting Bacon’s character 25 years after the events of the 1990 movie. But fans’ hopes have been dashed as Kevin Bacon confirmed that the project has been scrapped.
“Sad to report that my dream of revisiting the world of Perfection will not become a reality,” Bacon wrote in an Instagram post. “Although we made a fantastic pilot (IMHO) the network has decided not to move forward. Thanks to our killer cast and everyone behind the scenes who worked so hard. And always keep one eye out for GRABOIDS!”
The plot would’ve seen Valentine McKee return to the town of Perfection to defend it from the Graboids, but the job would’ve been made that much harder thanks to the character having to “overcome age, alcohol and a delusional hero complex”.
It remains to be seen whether another network will pop its head out of the sand to save the day.
