It’s Mustafar, the planet from Episode III: Revenge of the Sith where Obi-Wan and Anakin clashed among volatile pools of lava. Mustafar was also briefly featured in Rogue One: A Star Wars story since it’s where Anakin, as Darth Vader, built his menacing lair. Which is the exact castle Kylo is trying to infiltrate at the beginning of Rise of Skywalker.
Every Modern Star Wars Movie Review
From the book: “Kylo soon outpaces his stormtrooper escorts as he cuts a swath of destruction through the Alazmec who attempt to block his path to Vader’s castle — or rather, its crumbling ruins. Kylo enters the castle grounds with purpose, and finds an ark containing an artifact that will lead him to answers.”
If you’re wondering about who the Alazmec are, the book describes them as “cult colonists” who “voyage to Mustafar in pilgrimage seeking to tap into the powers that supposedly fueled him, and wear “sodium silicate-dusted protective clothing” and goggles to protect their eyes from irritating ash.
While on Mustafar, the Alazmec “planted a thin forest of irontrees…in a futile attempt to reinvigorate the glen that covered the land centuries earlier.”For more on Episode IX, check out our official review, a closer look at THAT big Leia moment, and this explanation of the movie’s massive Sith revelations.
