While you can find lots of different armor, enchantments, talismans, and other gear in God of War – some items offer bonuses not found anywhere else. While some enchantments can be randomized – others are static drops or treasures that can be found in world, either in certain chests or as quest rewards.
Below you will find some of the best items you shouldn’t miss out on thanks to their bonus effects:
- Base Stats: 2 Defense, 4 Vitality – Activate to gain a Burst of Health.
This item may be hard to miss, but it’s worth pointing out regardless for the simple fact that it allows you to gain a burst of health early on in the game, which can be a lifesaver in tough situations.
You can find this item in a Legendary Chest located in The Witch’s Cave below The Riverpass. On your way to the boat you’ll jump across a few platforms, and the chest will be there on the side.
- Stats: 4 Strength, 4 Cooldown, Sprinter’s Unstoppable Aura
This unique item, which can be inserted into a socket of armor with an open slot, allows you to gain a unique buff when sprinting. Sprinting for 3 seconds grants Unstoppable Aura, preventing interruptions by enemy attacks.
The only way to get this item is by embarking on a Side Quest that you can find early on near the Shores of Nine. Head to the Stone Falls and look for a wheel mechanism that opens a large gold gate – leading to the region called Veithurgard
Once there, you can take on a sidequest to free the dragon in Veithurgard, and your reward is this enchantment.
- Base Stats: 6 Strength, 6 Defense
This Axe Grip is a great item to get early on as it offers the Warrior’s Protective Barrier: a low Perk activation chance to grant Protective Barrier, preventing damage from enemy attacks, on any successful axe hit.
- Stats: 4 Defense/Vitality/Runic, Dark Elf Defense
If the Dark Elves of Alfheim give you trouble, you may want to keep an eye out for three rare Enchantments – the Fragmented Heart of Alfheim. Each gives a modest stat boost, but also reduces all damage by Dark Elf attacks by 12 percent, and can be combined for a grand total of 36 percent damage reduction!
The first of these enchantments is found shortly after entering the Ringed Temple Trench. Once you move up the path to find a wheel mechanism you can use it to lower the platform down to show a secret path. Enter the tunnel, then use the wheel mechanism in the next room to slowly lower the floor again, but stop before the end to show a coffin in an alcove – and freeze a nearby gear to go get it.
The second enchantment is found just before the bridge to the temple – but you will need to defeat the Ancient to loot it.
The final enchantment can be found after restoring the Light of Alfheim. Once you make it from the core to the outer ring, look around for a light crystal receptacle near a coffin on an upper level and activate it to form a bridge to the coffin that holds the final enchantment.
- Base Stats: 4 Defense, 6 Vitality, Realm Shift
Perhaps one of the best talismans you can get is found early on in the realm of Alfheim. This Talisman allows you to slow down time surrounding enemies you have dodged at the last second. This ability is great no matter how powerful you become, and upgrading it makes the effect last longer.
To find this item, take the boat into the lake surrounding the Ringed Temple, and head Southeast to the Light Elf Sanctuary. You’ll need to open the door blocked by roots on the left by taking a long loop around and right to circle back to the platforms above where you can target all three root cores at once.
Inside the chamber, the Talisman is located in a Legendary Chest, and to open it you must turn the wheel mechanism to spin two of the roots around all the way until they start rotating back – and line them up with the third against the back wall to destroy them all at once.
